Gregorian Chant Workshops at Saint Meinrad

The liturgical musicians of Saint Meinrad Archabbey will be hosting two Gregorian chant workshops in early July.

The first, scheduled for July 1-5, is geared toward beginners. It will address the basics of chant in English and Latin, and will introduce chant repertoire connected particularly with the mass and the Liturgy of the Hours. Special chants appropriate for different moments of the liturgical year will be highlighted.

The second workshop, scheduled for July 8-12, is geared toward the intermediate student of chant. Advanced cantors or parish music directors would be the primary audience. Besides history and singing technique, sessions will address how to direct chant. Special attention will be given to the sequences of the liturgical year and the Exultet. Participants can expect to sing through the week with a chant schola.

A chant workshop for more advanced chant aficionados is scheduled for January, 2021.

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to sing along with the Benedictine monastic community in the beautiful Church of Our Lady of Einsiedeln.
