Six peer-reviewed articles on a range of liturgical topics by African, Asian, and North American scholars in the open-access Journal of Global Catholicism.
The articles in the current issue of the Journal of Global Catholicism address “how people experience [the church’s ritual forms], adapt them, find belonging, exclusion and meaning in them; and, how that worship affects the lives they live outside of the Sunday celebration itself.” The editor goes on to explain: “The essays gathered in this issue differ considerably by subject and approaches, but all attend to the lived reality of Catholic ritual.”
Topics addressed include Catholic funerals in Korea, La Santa Muerte devotion in Mexico, liturgical participation’s effect on social-political imagination and engagement in Ghana, and from the Canadian Catholic context two essays on non-Catholic participation in parish liturgies and the relationship between a community’s worship and its social outreach.
