Call for Papers: The Work of Human Hands

By Staff, May 7, 2026

We are excited to share the news of an upcoming conference at the University of Notre Dame, titled “The Work of Human Hands: Liturgy and the Senses” (April 15-17, 2027) which will convene scholars from a wide variety of disciplines from around the world.

Intentionally broad, the theme invites academics, specialists, and pastoral practitioners to an interdisciplinary and constructive conversation about the ways in which Christian and Jewish worship engage human sense preception.

For the full call for papers and more information, please see the conference site. Those wishing to present are invited to submit abstracts of no more than 300 words by August 1, 2026

This conference is supported by the Theology Department (Liturgical Studies) at the University of Notre Dame, Sacred Music at Notre Dame, the Raclin-Murphy Museum of Art, the Notre Dame Arts Initiative, the Franco Family Institute for Liberal Arts and the Public Good, and the Global Catholic Research Initiative at Notre Dame.

This conference is a memorial tribute to Nathan P. Chase (1990-2025), who served Pray Tell blog as editorial assistant, member of the editorial advisory committee, and finally as co-editor, until his death in 2025.
