Visio Divina, a project of the Obsculta Preaching Initiative, seeks to disrupt the online eternal scroll with an invitation to pray with sacred imagery.
This Visio relates to today’s Gospel reading — Mark 6:30-34 — wherein “When Jesus saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.”
We invite you to put yourself into this image, this scene, to sense into Jesus’ comforting — and also, occasionally, challenging presence.

The artwork in this Visio is by James Tissot (c. 1886) and is titled, “Jesus Sits by the Seashore and Preaches”. This artwork is part of the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
