Baltimore Archdiocese Lowers Confirmation Age to 9

In an effort to enhance youth formation and counteract disaffiliation, Archbishop William E. Lori of the Archdiocese of Baltimore has announced that the sacrament of confirmation will now be administered to children at age 9, instead of the previous range of 14 to 16. This change aims to deepen family involvement in religious education during children’s formative years. The transition will be implemented gradually across the archdiocese, with full adoption expected by 2028.
