Pope Francis led the first-ever International Summit on Children’s Rights at the Vatican starting on February 3, 2025, calling for urgent global action to protect the most vulnerable. In his address, he condemned the suffering of children in war zones, victims of trafficking, undocumented and unaccompanied migrants and those deprived of education and healthcare. The Pope also criticized a “throwaway culture” that disregards the dignity of the unborn and marginalized.
The two-day summit, titled Love Them and Protect Them, gathered global leaders, to discuss concrete ways to uphold children’s rights. Pope Francis emphasized that children are the “future of humanity” and that their well-being is a moral imperative.
Additionally, the Pope announced his upcoming Apostolic Exhortation on children’s protection, reinforcing the Churchโs commitment to safeguarding their dignity and future. “The worldโs children are watching us,” he declared, urging us to take responsibility for their care and flourishing.
