GOSPEL COMMUNION: 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 4, 2022 : 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Since only one of the generic antiphons in the Missal, Antiphonal, Antiphonary and Graduale has any connection with today’s readings, the Collegeville Composers composed a new antiphon based on Luke 14:26-27 from today’s Gospel reading. The psalm selected, Psalm 49, echoes strongly the final lines of the Gospel: “Anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.”

As we approach the Lord in Communion, we too can resolve to renounce everything we have, receive his nourishment, and follow him always.

The same antiphon will be used as the Song for the Table a week on Wednesday, the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

A demo recording of the same antiphon and psalm tone, but with different psalm verses (for the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B), will be found here.
