It’s sad to hear of the cuts made at that gem of choral and church music education, Westminster Choir College. It was recently reported that undergraduate and masters level degree programs in piano, music theory/composition, organ performance, and sacred music are being eliminated.
The school will continue to offer music education, voice performance, and a BA in music at the undergraduate level, and choral conducting, choral pedagogy, music education, and voice pedagogy and performance at the masters level.
Westminster Choir College was founded in 1920 and had been located in Princeton, New Jersey since 1932, until it was moved to the campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville in fall of 2020. There was a time when WCC had over 500 students. But this past fall (2021), no doubt in part because of the turmoil of organizational controversies and changes of the past few years, there were only 16 incoming first-year students.
