Call for Papers: Lost in Cyberspace – The Church at Prayer

The Society for Liturgical Study will be holding an online symposium this year to explore the theme: ‘Lost in Cyberspace: The Church at Prayer’.  This will be held on: Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 August 2021. We intend to publish the papers delivered in a special double issue of Anaphora.

We particularly welcome papers which engage critically with the experience of online worship during the Covid-19 – moving beyond descriptive and how-to conversations. Contributions might include reflections on ecclesiology, theology, embodiment, language etc.

Because this symposium is an online event we are eager to have international participation beyond the Society’s usual geographical base in the UK and Ireland.

James Hadley, OblSB

James Hadley is a priest in the Church of England. He previously taught Liturgical Art and Architecture, as well as church design, at the Catholic University of America, Rome Campus. He lectured in Faith and Culture for the Rome summer program of the Australian Catholic University. He has published in Anaphora, Studia Liturgica, Ecclesia Orans, Material Culture Review, as well as the Irish Theological Quarterly. In addition to his parish ministry he works as a liturgical artist and designer. James has a special interest in immigration issues in Europe, traveling regularly to the island of Lampedusa with clergy and students to raise awareness of human trafficking.
