GOSPEL COMMUNION: 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

February 7, 2021: Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)

This Sunday’s First Reading records the inner desolation of those who are sick. This Sunday’s Responsorial Psalm and Gospel reading are focused on the theme of healing. The Collegeville Composers took as their inspiration one of today’s Communion antiphon choices in the 1998 Antiphonal:

Praise the love of God,
the wonders of the Lord,
who satisfies the hungry
and feeds the starving soul.

combining the dual ideas of healing and feeding.

The plangency of the flattened 7th in the antiphon is contrasted with the communion psalm, Psalm 146, using a brighter open-ended two-line psalm chant.

Listen for this contrast in the sample recording, extracted from the CD Walk in My Ways, found here.
