GOSPEL COMMUNION: 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 16, 2020: Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The double inspiration for this Sunday’s antiphon is, firstly, the Second Reading, especially these lines:

Just as you once disobeyed God
but have now received mercy because of their disobedience,
so they have now disobeyed in order that,
by virtue of the mercy shown to you,
they too may now receive mercy.
For God delivered all to disobedience,
that he might have mercy upon all. (Romans 11:30-32)

and secondly, the Communion antiphon in the Missal:

With the Lord there is mercy;
in him is plentiful redemption. (Ps 130:7)

During the distribution of Communion, we can reflect that not only is God’s mercy for all, God’s gifts are also for all.

The psalm verses are taken from Psalms 130 and 103, with the trademark Psallite quarter-refrains at the end of each line.
