INTROITUS: 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Ego clamavi, quoniam exaudisti me, Deus: inclina aurem tuam, et exaudi verba mea: custodi me, Domine, ut pupillam oculi: sub umbra alarum tuarum protege me.

“I call upon you, because you hear me, God. Turn your ear to me and hear my words. Keep me like the apple of your eye, hide me under the shadows of your wings.” (Ps 17(16):6.8)

Click here to listen to an audio of the chant sung by Br. Jacob Berns, OSB, of St. John’s Abbey.

The first two words are a prime example for how Gregorian Chant plays with directions up and down. If you ever wanted to observe a human being crying to a mighty deity, listen to these two words: Ego clamavi.
