Sister Delores Dufner OSB to Receive Lutheran Award

Benedictine Sister Delores Dufner of Saint Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph, Minnesota will receive the Christus Rex (“Christ the King”) award from Valparaiso University’s Institute of Liturgical Studies at its annual conference this coming week.

Sister-Delores-Dufner2017 is the 500th anniversary of the beginnings of the Reformation with Martin Luther’s 95 Theses in 1517.

In 2016, the Valparaiso institute commissioned Sister Delores, a member of St. Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph, to write a special hymn for its annual conference, where she was also a speaker.

Sister Delores is a prolific liturgical poet and has had over 200 hymn texts published. Nine of her hymn texts are in Evangelical Lutheran Worship, the hymnal of the ELCA Lutheran church. Her hymn “To Be Your Presence” was sung at the prayer service held in Lund, Sweden, Oct. 31, 2016, during a joint Catholic-Lutheran commemoration of the Reformation attended by Pope Francis and international Lutheran leaders.

Congratulations, Sister Delores!

H/T St. Cloud Visitor.
