Changes at the Mundelein Liturgical Institute [UPDATED]

Fr. Doug Martis has resigned his position as Director of the Liturgical Institute at Mundelein outside Chicago. In a recent Facebook message, Martis said that he will remain at the Institute until a new director is in place. Martis has been director since 2004. In addition, Adam Bartlett is no longer Assistant Director of the Institute.

In his message, Martis notes that faculty are already schedule for several coming year, and the conferences and Hillenbrand Lectures for the 2015-2016 school year are already in place. The Institute has nearly eliminated its need for an archdiocesan subsidy and plans to be financially independent by 2017.

Martis said,

I am proud of the work the Institute has been able to accomplish in my years as Director, not only its incredible growth but also in the quality of students… The liturgical and scholarly formation received here has helped our graduates continue to serve the Catholic Church’s liturgical apostolate.

Pray Tell wishes everyone at the Institute all the best!

There has to be a backstory to this. Doug is a priest of our diocese, and we didn’t get any kind of notice at all.

Fr. Martis has entered the Benedictines. I would imagine his discernment of this vocation is what set things in motion.

is it possible Archbishop Cupich will be shaping Mundelein into his vision of what seminary should be ?
