Catholics in Ukraine are afraid to go to Mass

The Catholic Heraldย published a story yesterday on Catholics in Eastern Ukraine. Ukraine has been marred by violenceย after protests began against the former president’s refusal to sign a trade deal with the European Union a few months ago. The conflict has since broadened and has sparked multiple secessionist movements.

Recently a priest from the Society of Christ for Poles Abroad was abducted in central Donetsk, a city inย Eastern Ukraine. According to the bishop of Kharkiv-Zaporizhia: โ€œLocal Catholics are living in conditions of great danger โ€” the terrorists are doing what they like and shooting at people indiscriminately.”

So in our prayersย let us not forget the plight of our Catholic sisters and brothers in Ukraine.
