On the plane ride back from the Holy Land Pope Francis visited with reporters. As we have come to expect, Pope Francis was honest and open about some of the current hot-button issues facing the Church. Most intriguing were his comments on the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the family. In speaking about the Synod, Catholic News Agency reports that Pope Francis sought to clarify its intent:
“What I didn’t like, was what some people, within the Church as well, said about the purpose of the synod: that it intends to allow remarried divorcees to take Communion, as if the entire issue boiled down to a case,” the Pope said, adding that each case “needs to be looked at separately.”
The Pope also elaborated on his meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, his invitation to the presidents of Israel and Palestine, and mandatory celibacy. For the full report, check out CNA.
