    Back around 1980 when I was teaching in a predominantly black Catholic college, a course in Latin was begun for the dozen or so seminarians who attended the college. Much to everyone’s surprise the class had 25-30 kids sign up. The teacher was a fine one, but we never really could figure out why so many black kids were interested in the course. Could it be that there are just some people who love languages?
