Cardinal Elector Favors Allowing Priests To Marry

Cardinal Keith O’Brien of Scotland said it was clear many priests struggled to cope with celibacy, and should be able to marry and have children, BBC reports. Cardinal O’Brien will have a say in who succeeds Benedict XVI after he retires onย February 28th.ย  The cardinal said it might be time for a younger pontiff from part of the developing world, where the Catholic faith is thriving.

One voice in 117, but at least it is one. We have been knocking on the door for a long time. Maybe someone has come to answer the knock at last. For many years, the Movement for Married Clergy here in the UK has sought to have this matter on the agenda for discussion. Now who will stand up from the Bishop’s Conference and offer support to Cardinal O’Brien?
