I feel so badly about this whole Roman Missal translation and am quite convinced it is not needed or wanted by most Catholics who still regularly participate in Eucharist. It will alienate them. I can’t help think this is another egregious example of Church leadership being very out of touch with their own people. It so seems like that cliche of rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic and yet you have Bishops blithly declaring in Catholic newspapers that the Faithful will “rejoice” in this new translation. What planet are they living on? I meet and interact with many priests and have yet to meet ONE who has responded with any enthusiasm to this initiative. When I ask their opinion I find averted eyes and a voice mumbling a bottom line about having to do what they’re told. I find it interesting to read the comments of such credible authors as Philip Endean s.j. in the Tablet and contrast them with those of another Jesuit and Canadian member of Vox Clara, Archbishop Terrance Prendergast of Ottawa. In another Tablet article Thomas Reese s.j. of woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University is quoted as saying:”I believe that the new translations are a step backwards and confusing to the people in the pews.” I feel so stongly that this is an impending disaster and I don’t know how to stop it. Is there anyone in our church who can save us from ourselves ?
This is useful… I know there are going to be a lot of questions in the months ahead
