Art and Anatomy in the Sistine Chapel

Michaelangelo 2 image001

I bet you didn’t notice this either when you looked at Michaelangelo’s masterpiece in the Sistine Chapel. Michaelangel, the artist who also was an anatomist,ย seems to have hidden details of the human brain and other organs in his painting of God. As this article in Scientific American asks, “What was Michelangelo saying by constructing the voice box of God out of the brain stem of man? Is it a sacrilege or homage?”

  1. Not convincing at all. This is the boffin version of seeing the face of the Virgin in a fried tortilla.
