Top reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>government-collected church contribution (tax), 54%;<\/li>\n<li>sexual abuse in the church, 33%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For those who have already left the Church, the top reasons why they left:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>no interest in the institutional Church, 34%;<\/li>\n<li>role of women in the Catholic Church, 31%;<\/li>\n<li>appointment of conservative bishops, 26%;<\/li>\n<li>lack of interest in religion, 25%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There have been several controversial episcopal nominations in Austria in recent years. In Burgenland, where Bishop \u00c4gidius Zsifkovics was recently installed, almost half (48%) of the Catholics are considering leaving the Church.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those surveyed were asked what their first spontaneous thought is about the Roman Catholic Church. The top answers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sexual abuse (15%);<\/li>\n<li>mandatory church contribution (tax) (14%);<\/li>\n<li>old, outdated, old-fashioned, backward (10%);<\/li>\n<li>the Pope (9%);<\/li>\n<li>faith (8%);<\/li>\n<li>nothing good (4%);<\/li>\n<li>baptism, first Communion, etc. (3%);<\/li>\n<li>positive things (2%);<\/li>\n<li>prayer (1%);<\/li>\n<li>the Cross (1%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0*<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/eni.ch\/featured\/article.php?id=4783\" target=\"_blank\">Norway<\/a>, the average member of the state Lutheran Church attended church once in 2010. Much of this attendance can be attributed to non-church goers who attended once in the past year on the occasion of a Baptism.<\/p>\n<p>Of Norway&#8217;s five million inhabitants, 78 per cent were members of the Church of Norway in 2010, as opposed to 86.3 per cent in 2000.
