{"id":69953,"date":"2026-03-12T11:12:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-12T16:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=69953"},"modified":"2026-03-16T15:06:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T20:06:17","slug":"lent-4-lectio-divina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/12\/lent-4-lectio-divina\/","title":{"rendered":"Lectio Divina"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">By Julia Fryc, March 12. 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This Lenten season, we&#8217;ve been guiding viewers on journey with a group of Saint John\u2019s School of Theology Masters candidates who gathered to pray with the Gospel readings from all five Sundays of the season, utilizing the ancient Benedictine practice of Lectio Divina. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Julia Fryc, a 1st year MDiv candidate, reflects on the Gospel reading for this coming Sunday, 3rd in the Lenten season, wherein we find the curious case of Jesus healing the blind man with spit and earth. What does this intimate healing mean for us? Are we willing to let Him take care of us in the way only He knows how?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2026 Lenten Lectio Series: 4th Sunday of Lent - Julia Fryc, First-Year MDiv Candidate (SOT\/Sem)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RB04hPGJlrU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/john\/9?1\">John 9:1-41&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Jesus passed by he saw a man blind from birth.<br>His disciples asked him,<br>\u201cRabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents,&nbsp;<br>that he was born blind?\u201d<br>Jesus answered,<br>\u201cNeither he nor his parents sinned;&nbsp;<br>it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him.<br>We have to do the works of the one who sent me while it is day.<br>Night is coming when no one can work.<br>While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.\u201d<br>When he had said this, he spat on the ground<br>and made clay with the saliva,<br>and smeared the clay on his eyes,<br>and said to him,&nbsp;<br>\u201cGo wash in the Pool of Siloam\u201d \u2014which means Sent\u2014.<br>So he went and washed, and came back able to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His neighbors and those who had seen him earlier as a beggar said,&nbsp;<br>\u201cIsn\u2019t this the one who used to sit and beg?\u201d<br>Some said, \u201cIt is, \u201c<br>but others said, \u201cNo, he just looks like him.\u201d<br>He said, \u201cI am.\u201d<br>So they said to him, \u201cHow were your eyes opened?\u201d<br>He replied,<br>\u201cThe man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes<br>and told me, \u2018Go to Siloam and wash.\u2019<br>So I went there and washed and was able to see.\u201d<br>And they said to him, \u201cWhere is he?\u201d<br>He said, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They brought the one who was once blind to the Pharisees.<br>Now Jesus had made clay and opened his eyes on a sabbath.<br>So then the Pharisees also asked him how he was able to see.<br>He said to them,<br>\u201cHe put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and now I can see.\u201d<br>So some of the Pharisees said,<br>\u201cThis man is not from God,<br>because he does not keep the sabbath.\u201d<br>But others said,<br>\u201cHow can a sinful man do such signs?\u201d<br>And there was a division among them.<br>So they said to the blind man again,&nbsp;<br>\u201cWhat do you have to say about him,<br>since he opened your eyes?\u201d<br>He said, \u201cHe is a prophet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the Jews did not believe&nbsp;<br>that he had been blind and gained his sight&nbsp;<br>until they summoned the parents of the one who had gained his sight.<br>They asked them,<br>\u201cIs this your son, who you say was born blind?<br>How does he now see?\u201d<br>His parents answered and said,&nbsp;<br>\u201cWe know that this is our son and that he was born blind.<br>We do not know how he sees now,<br>nor do we know who opened his eyes.<br>Ask him, he is of age;<br>he can speak for himself.\u201d<br>His parents said this because they were afraid<br>of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed&nbsp;<br>that if anyone acknowledged him as the Christ,<br>he would be expelled from the synagogue.<br>For this reason his parents said,<br>\u201cHe is of age; question him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So a second time they called the man who had been blind&nbsp;<br>and said to him, \u201cGive God the praise!<br>We know that this man is a sinner.\u201d<br>He replied,<br>\u201cIf he is a sinner, I do not know.<br>One thing I do know is that I was blind and now I see.\u201d<br>So they said to him,<br>\u201cWhat did he do to you?<br>How did he open your eyes?\u201d<br>He answered them,<br>\u201cI told you already and you did not listen.<br>Why do you want to hear it again?<br>Do you want to become his disciples, too?\u201d<br>They ridiculed him and said,&nbsp;<br>\u201cYou are that man\u2019s disciple;<br>we are disciples of Moses!<br>We know that God spoke to Moses,&nbsp;<br>but we do not know where this one is from.\u201d<br>The man answered and said to them,<br>\u201cThis is what is so amazing,&nbsp;<br>that you do not know where he is from, yet he opened my eyes.<br>We know that God does not listen to sinners,&nbsp;<br>but if one is devout and does his will, he listens to him.<br>It is unheard of that anyone ever opened the eyes of a person born blind.<br>If this man were not from God,<br>he would not be able to do anything.\u201d<br>They answered and said to him,<br>\u201cYou were born totally in sin,<br>and are you trying to teach us?\u201d<br>Then they threw him out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Jesus heard that they had thrown him out,<br>he found him and said, Do you believe in the Son of Man?\u201d<br>He answered and said,&nbsp;<br>\u201cWho is he, sir, that I may believe in him?\u201d<br>Jesus said to him,<br>\u201cYou have seen him,<br>the one speaking with you is he.\u201d<br>He said,<br>\u201cI do believe, Lord,\u201d and he worshiped him.<br>Then Jesus said,<br>\u201cI came into this world for judgment,&nbsp;<br>so that those who do not see might see,&nbsp;<br>and those who do see might become blind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this&nbsp;<br>and said to him, \u201cSurely we are not also blind, are we?\u201d<br>Jesus said to them,<br>\u201cIf you were blind, you would have no sin;&nbsp;<br>but now you are saying, \u2018We see,\u2019 so your sin remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Julia&nbsp;Fryc<\/strong>&nbsp;is graduate student at St. John\u2019s School of Theology where she is currently studying in the Master\u2019s of Divinity program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JULIA FRYC &#8212;
