This year&#8217;s theme, &#8220;Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress,&#8221; emphasizes the importance of incorporation and accessibility in our society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/cna\/catholics-with-disabilities-reflect-ahead-of-international-day-of-persons-with-disabilities\">recent article<\/a> published on the <em>National Catholic Register<\/em>, a panel of Catholic adults with disabilities shared their experiences and insights on how faith guides their lives and how dioceses and individuals can better accommodate and understand them. It is well worth a read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September of this year, Pope Leo XIV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/266559\/pope-leo-xiv-approves-new-measures-to-include-people-with-disabilities-in-vatican-workforce\">took meaningful steps<\/a> to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in the Vatican workforce, approving new measures to hire and support employees with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pope Francis spoke out beautifully on the matter during his pontificate. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewtn.com\/catholicism\/library\/international-day-of-persons-with-disabilities-24808\">In a letter from December 2022<\/a>, he said, &#8220;Truly, we can speak of a&nbsp;<em>magisterium of fragility<\/em>&nbsp;that, if heeded, would make our society more humane and fraternal, enabling all of us to understand that happiness is bread that is not eaten alone. How much would a better awareness of our need for one another help us to have less hostile relationships with those around us!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What impact does recognition of persons with disabilities have on our liturgical celebrations?  At the very least&#8211;the very accessibility of our spaces: our narthex, our doors, our reconciliation rooms?  What about sound or light, or size of text?
