In a groundbreaking moment for the Church of England, Sarah Mullally has been named the first female Archbishop of Canterbury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The appointment of Mullally marks a historic turning point for the Church of England, which began ordaining women as priests in 1994 and consecrated its first female bishop in 2015. She will be the first woman to take on the role, following in the footsteps of 105 men since St. Augustine became the inaugural Archbishop in 597.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mullally brings a wide array of experiences, including a distinguished career in nursing and service in the House of Lords. She is the former Bishop of London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
