The pope, who turned 88 this past December, released his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/en\/pope\/news\/2025-02\/pope-dedicates-general-audience-catechesis-19-february-2025.html\">Wednesday catechesis<\/a> from the hospital this morning, reflecting on how Jesus, even from the Cross, prayed for each of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his pontificate, Pope Francis has challenged us repeatedly to attend to the poorest and most vulnerable: the refugee, the migrant, the poor marginalized by power, families separated by violence.  Pope Francis, in his preaching, teaching, and way of being, has called us to recognize that we have a choice to confront systems of injustice: whether damaging to the environment, or persecuting the dignity of families fleeing from exploitation and violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let us pray for Pope Francis, recalling the love Christ Jesus has for us.  May we remain steadfast in hope.  As he concluded in his recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/letters\/2025\/documents\/20250210-lettera-vescovi-usa.html\">Letter to the Bishops of the United States<\/a>, asking for the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>May the \u201cVirgen morena<em>,<\/em>\u201d who knew how to reconcile peoples when they were at enmity, grant us all to meet again as brothers and sisters, within her embrace, and thus take a step forward in the construction of a society that is more fraternal, inclusive and respectful of the dignity of all.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KATHARINE E.
