In his message to Abbot Geoffroy Kemlin OSB, President of the Congregation, the Pope highlighted Dom Gu\u00e9ranger&#8217;s significant contributions to the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dom Gu\u00e9ranger was instrumental in restoring Benedictine monastic life in France after the disruptions of the French Revolution. He was a staunch opponent of the Gallicanist movement, which sought greater independence for the French Church from the Papacy. His efforts in rediscovering the liturgy as the language of the Church and an expression of its faith positioned him as a forerunner of the modern liturgical movement. His extensive writings, particularly &#8220;The Liturgical Year,&#8221; aimed to make the beauty and richness of the liturgy accessible to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pope Francis emphasized two aspects of Dom Gu\u00e9ranger&#8217;s legacy that are especially relevant today: fidelity to the Holy See, particularly in liturgical matters, and spiritual fatherhood. The Pope praised Dom Gu\u00e9ranger&#8217;s dedication to guiding souls in their search for God, noting that his gentle and joyful trust in divine providence influenced not only monks and nuns but also laypeople who sought his counsel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Pope Francis expressed his hope that Dom Gu\u00e9ranger&#8217;s example would inspire a renewed love for the Church&#8217;s liturgical tradition and a deeper unity with the Successor of Peter.
