One of the happy surprises contained in the new\u00a0Divine Office Hymnal<\/em>\u00a0(Chicago, IL: GIA Publications, Inc, 2023) is the inclusion of two English-language hymns intended for use on 12 December, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the USA.\u00a0Almost all the hymns in this publication are translations from Latin originals, usually set to both metrical-chorale tunes as well as chant melodies found in the\u00a0Liber Hymnarius<\/em>\u00a0(Sabl\u00e9-sur-Sarthe-Paris: Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes-Descl\u00e9e, 1983), but these two hymns are based on Spanish-language originals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cHeart of the Household\u201d appears as #565\/566 in\u00a0The Divine Office Hymnal<\/em>\u00a0and is assigned for use at the Office of Readings and\/or at Lauds.\u00a0According to the attribution apparatus it is based on a text by an unknown author entitled \u201cEres mujer de casa y, adem\u00e1s, peregrina.\u201d\u00a0I have been unable to determine if the original is widely employed in particular regions of the Spanish-speaking world and\/or what tune would be used in singing the text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
