{"id":61590,"date":"2023-03-08T21:09:07","date_gmt":"2023-03-09T03:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=61590"},"modified":"2023-04-02T14:15:45","modified_gmt":"2023-04-02T19:15:45","slug":"get-a-little-lent-in-your-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2023\/03\/08\/get-a-little-lent-in-your-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Get a Little Lent in your Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lent is not a time for giving up.\u00a0 Lent is all about perseverance.\u00a0 Trying again.\u00a0 And some prayer, fasting, and almsgiving would be nice, too.<\/p>\n<p>But, we&#8217;re in a tough space this Lent&#8230;or at least I am.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t even gotten started yet.<\/p>\n<p>A bout with Covid knocked out the first week and a half of Lent.\u00a0 I missed walking out in the desert&#8230;I missed the bemused Jesus gently directing the wide-eyed disciples back\u00a0<em>down\u00a0<\/em>from the mountaintop.<\/p>\n<p>On top of all this, I&#8217;ve felt unsettled about my Lenten practice.\u00a0 Do I take something on?\u00a0 Give something up?\u00a0 And now, time flies and it&#8217;s the Second Week of Lent.\u00a0 Is it too late to begin?<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 397px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d3d00swyhr67nd.cloudfront.net\/w1200h1200\/collection\/WYR\/BMGH\/WYR_BMGH_84_1963_2-001.jpg\" alt=\"The Return of the Prodigal Son | Art UK\" width=\"397\" height=\"318\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Return of the Prodigal Son Eric Rimmington (b.1926), accessed at artuk.org<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While one who is waiting in line for exclusive event tickets would surely be disappointed by attempting to hop on the train two and a half weeks late&#8211;not even nosebleed seats would be left&#8211;the pathway to God&#8217;s kingdom doesn&#8217;t quite work that way.\u00a0 There seems to always be room at the table&#8230;.even for the late-comers.\u00a0 In fact, the banquet doesn&#8217;t even get started until the Prodigal Son returns&#8230;or the vineyard workers show up at the 11th hour.\u00a0 And we know what Jesus has to say about the people who <em>complain<\/em> about those lazy, good-for-nothing late-comers.<\/p>\n<p>So, I&#8217;m the late-comer this Lent.\u00a0 But Lent is about persevering.\u00a0 I want to show up for the party.\u00a0 And, now\u00a0<em>is\u00a0<\/em>an acceptable time.\u00a0 Now is the day of salvation.\u00a0 Anyone in the boat with me can begin Lent today&#8230;and perhaps begin by practicing a little bit of mercy&#8230;toward yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Lent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lent is not a time for giving up.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":55,"featured_media":61591,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3119,17],"tags":[3592],"class_list":["post-61590","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-plaza-new-ws","category-liturgical-spirituality","tag-liturgical-spirituality-lent"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
