June 5 2022 : Pentecost Sunday<\/b><\/p>\n

The Collegeville Composers were faced with attempting to provide for both the Vigil and the Mass of the Day. In this case, they drew inspiration from the Vigil Gospel, John 7:37-39:<\/span><\/p>\n

On the last and greatest day of the feast,
\nJesus stood up and exclaimed,
\n\u201cLet anyone who thirsts come to me and drink.
\nAs Scripture says:
\nRivers of living water will flow from within him who believes in me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He said this in reference to the Spirit
\nthat those who came to believe in him were to receive.
\nThere was, of course, no Spirit yet,
\nbecause Jesus had not yet been glorified.<\/p>\n

The Missal antiphon for the Vigil (John 7:37) takes part of this reading:<\/span><\/p>\n

On the last day of the festival, Jesus stood and cried out:
\nIf anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink, alleluia.<\/p>\n

At Communion, we are called to come and drink the Blood of the Risen Lord as well as to eat his Risen Body. Not only does this assuage our thirst, but with the power of the Spirit in us, streams of living water will flow from within us when we show Christ to the world in the way that we live. In this way, what we have celebrated and received becomes enfleshed as we are sent forth in mission to a hungry and thirsty world.<\/span><\/p>\n
