Yesterday the FINAL text of the Order of Mass was sent to publishers by the U.S. Bishops\u2019 Committee on Divine Worship. It went out at 3:16 pm Collegeville time \u2013 but of course sent from the Eastern time zone. And who leaked it to Pray Tell<\/em>, you ask? I\u2019ll give you one hint: it certainly wasn\u2019t anyone connected to a certain publishing house in Collegeville.<\/p>\n

Pray Tell<\/em> has seen a copy of the cover letter from the BCDW. It refers to the Order of Mass, prefaces, solemn blessings, prayers over the people, and appendix to the Order of Mass with additional Eucharistic prayers. That is to say, only a small proportion of the entire missal, the unchanging texts, is being sent to publishers at this point. Yet to come is the bulk of the missal \u2013 the proper prayers for each Sunday and feast day of the seasons and ordinary time, the proper prefaces, the commons, the proper of saints, and so forth. The letter promises that the rest of the missal will be sent out \u201cin coming days.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The letter states \u201cPlease disregard any earlier versions which had been sent previously,\u201d a subtle reference to the numerous final versions of the Order of Mass approved by Rome since the recognitio <\/em>(final approval) was given to the entire missal on March 25, 2010.<\/p>\n

Pray Tell<\/em> hears that all the rubrics instructing the priest to \u201cbend,\u201d which caused much mirth and ridicule in the blogosphere, have been changed to \u201cbow.\u201d When we\u00a0look at\u00a0the text we\u2019ll confirm that report.<\/p>\n
