\"\"<\/p>\n

Neither of the antiphons in the Roman Missal connects with the readings, so the Collegeville Composers Group borrowed part of the alternate antiphon for next<\/em> Sunday:<\/p>\n

By this we came to know the love of God:
\nthat Christ laid down his life for us;
\nso we ought to lay down our lives for one another.
\n(The reference given is John 3:16, but the relationship is fairly remote)<\/p>\n

after reflecting on these words from today\u2019s Gospel reading:<\/p>\n

The Son of Man is to be handed over to men
\nand they will kill him\u2026. (Mark 9:31)<\/p>\n

If anyone wishes to be first,
\nhe shall be the last of all and the servant of all\u2026. (Mark 9:35)<\/p>\n

Following suggestions for next Sunday\u2019s antiphon in the 1998 Antiphonal<\/em> and 2010 Antiphonary<\/em>, verses are from 1 Peter 2:21-24 and Philippians 2:6-11, digging deeper into the theme of Christ suffering and dying for us in order that we might have healing and life.<\/p>\n
