{"id":56168,"date":"2021-04-23T18:22:38","date_gmt":"2021-04-23T23:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=56168"},"modified":"2021-04-29T12:11:21","modified_gmt":"2021-04-29T17:11:21","slug":"reflections-on-a-liturgy-of-covid-tide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2021\/04\/23\/reflections-on-a-liturgy-of-covid-tide\/","title":{"rendered":"Reflections on a Liturgy of COVID-tide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Like many others, I went to the designated building.<\/p>\n<p>I joined the line to enter the building.<\/p>\n<p>As we filed in, I talked with people, exchanging pleasantries about daily life.<\/p>\n<p>An authorized person extended a welcome to me, making sure to know me by name.<\/p>\n<p>I took my place.<\/p>\n<p>Later, another authorized person discussed what was about to happen and what they were going to give me.<\/p>\n<p>This person made sure to get my consent before giving me anything.<\/p>\n<p>This person gave me something.<\/p>\n<p>This person directed me to my seat and told me to wait a while before leaving.<\/p>\n<p>I waited a while and then I left.<\/p>\n<p>What I provide here is a bare bones description of what happened when I went for my COVID vaccination.\u00a0 It also provides a bare-bones description of a Eucharistic liturgy.<\/p>\n<p>I receive Communion so that I may be more alive, more truly myself, and more at the service of others.<\/p>\n<p>I receive my vaccination so that I may be more alive and more truly myself\u2014freed eventually from the masks and the distancing\u2014and so that I may be at the service of others by becoming one less vector of infection in their lives.\u00a0 They too may move toward being more alive and more truly themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Eucharistic celebration is never a self-contained affair.\u00a0 Neither is vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>Eucharist implies and requires a discipline before and after its celebration until all are one in God.<\/p>\n<p>Especially in a time when COVID is still on the rampage, the desire for health implicit in seeking vaccination requires a discipline before and after its reception until all can be free.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like many others, I went to the designated building.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":52,"featured_media":56169,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_feature_clip_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[3118,3405,17],"tags":[3393],"class_list":["post-56168","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ars-celebrandi-new-ws","category-theology","category-liturgical-spirituality","tag-covid-19"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
