This week the United States celebrates the Thanksgiving Holiday. I’m always reminded of the Martha-Mary Gospel story during these days (I tend to be Martha). But why must we choose to be one or the other, or why does one way need to be better than the other? It seems that these holiday gatherings call us to be equal parts both.<\/p>\n

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families, near and far!<\/p>\n

\"\"A prayer before preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner<\/strong>
\n(based on Luke 10:27, 38-42)<\/p>\n

Lord, you know
\nall the things that still
\nneed to be done\u2014
\nthe cooking and cleaning, the preparation
\nand anticipation,
\nthe anxiety and worry that everything
\nwill be just right.
\nAs I prepare this meal, help me also
\nto prepare myself
\nthat I may not be distracted
\nby all these concerns.
\nAnd when you enter
\nthis home and sit
\nat this table,
\nmay I sit beside you
\nand remember
\nthat only one thing is needed:
\nto love you with all my heart, with all my being,
\nwith all my strength, and with all my mind,
\nand to love my neighbor as myself. Amen.<\/p>\n
