February 28, 2021: Second Sunday of Lent (Year B)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This antiphon was heard recently as the \u201cSong for the Week\u201d on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord.<\/p>\n

On this Sunday it links together the story in the First Reading of Abraham about to slay his son Isaac (Genesis 22), the Responsorial Psalm (\u201cO Lord, I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your handmaid\u201d \u2014 Ps 116:16) and Mark\u2019s Gospel of the Transfiguration (\u201cThis is my beloved Son. Listen to him.\u201d \u2014 Mk 9:7).<\/p>\n

The antiphon can be sung as a round in up to four parts.<\/p>\n

(As a comparison the Missal antiphon runs:<\/p>\n

This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
\nlisten to him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

taken, however, from Matthew 17:5.)<\/p>\n

Canticle verses are taken from Isaiah 40:1-11, with its references to the glory of the Lord appearing, getting up on a high mountain, etc.<\/p>\n
