January 17, 2021: Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In this Sunday\u2019s Gospel, we hear about John the Baptist watching Jesus walking by and saying:<\/p>\n

Behold, the Lamb of God (John 1:36)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u2014 a phrase so familiar to us from the invitation to Holy Communion. Three verses later, in response to being asked where he is staying, Jesus answers:<\/p>\n

Come, and you will see. (John 1:39)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Collegeville Composers had the happy idea of combining the first of these extracts with the \u201cTaste and see\u201d invitation contained in the archetypal Communion Psalm, Ps 34. A large portion of this psalm accordingly forms the psalm verses for this Communion processional. Additionally, the second half of the antiphon is used as a mini-refrain at the end of each couplet of the psalm verses.<\/p>\n

As we sing this antiphon, we recall that we are called to the Supper of the Lamb, and that indeed this Supper is the best taste-experience we will ever have.<\/p>\n
