{"id":54282,"date":"2021-01-07T16:50:18","date_gmt":"2021-01-07T22:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=54282"},"modified":"2021-01-15T14:36:46","modified_gmt":"2021-01-15T20:36:46","slug":"is-the-liturgy-full-of-lies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2021\/01\/07\/is-the-liturgy-full-of-lies\/","title":{"rendered":"Is the Liturgy Full of Lies?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Can the Liturgy say anything to national tragedy?\u00a0 Perhaps not.\u00a0 Perhaps there is no hope, no unity, no body to gather together.\u00a0 Perhaps this nation of the United States is simply broken beyond repair\u2014the Word of God has been usurped for condemnation and hatred.\u00a0 Even church leaders are found praying to God for division, <a href=\"https:\/\/losangeles.cbslocal.com\/2020\/11\/19\/catholic-bishops-raise-concern-over-covid-19-vaccine\/\">rejecting<\/a> the common good, and stoking hearts full of violence.<\/p>\n<p>And we thought 2020 was bad.<\/p>\n<p>What can our meager prayers do in a country embroiled with hatred and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/01\/06\/politics\/us-capitol-lockdown\/index.html\">death<\/a>?\u00a0 What service does the liturgy give?\u00a0 Is the liturgy\u2014our beloved, comfortable liturgy\u2014full of lies about the living God?\u00a0 We are clearly not experiencing the reality projected by liturgical prayer.<\/p>\n<p>So what is real?\u00a0 The Word of God calls us to change, and the Liturgy calls us to listen.\u00a0 If the United States has any dream of being a city on a hill, then let us have ears to hear.\u00a0 Let us have courage to break down the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/papa-francesco_20201003_enciclica-fratelli-tutti.html#_ftn26\">walls within our hearts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend is the Baptism of the Lord.\u00a0 This is what Isaiah has to say about the living God:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[H]e shall bring forth justice to the nations,<br \/>\nnot crying out, not shouting,<br \/>\nnot making his voice heard in the street.<br \/>\na bruised reed he shall not break,<br \/>\nand a smoldering wick he shall not quench,<br \/>\nuntil he establishes justice on the earth;<br \/>\nthe coastlands will wait for his teaching.
