I\u2019m sorry?\u00a0 Did we somehow magically slip from Lent of 2020 to Lent of 2021?\u00a0 Did Easter even happen?\u00a0 What day is this?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/media.npr.org\/assets\/img\/2020\/05\/15\/gettyimages-657279522_wide-47e637a09a841a5173bab82745b8e8c1ffd173a8.jpg\" alt=\"The Pandemic Time Warp : Short Wave : NPR\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/>I&#8217;ve got to admit, I\u2019ve been pretty confused about time. \u00a0The other day, I called to cancel a dentist appointment (I\u2019m too freaked out to sit in my very nice dentist\u2019s chair with my state ranking near the top of the list for BAD news about Covid).\u00a0 I said to the kind dental assistant on the phone, \u201cI think I just went in the late Fall, right?\u00a0 I\u2019m probably okay to wait a few more months.\u201d\u00a0 She likely smiled to herself as she informed me, \u201cNo, actually, you were here last July.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>July?\u00a0 Late Fall?\u00a0 Lent?\u00a0 These last months have all smeared together into the same, crazed blur.\u00a0 It\u2019s hard to keep time, when I and the rest of the world are slogging through this terrible time-warp of global pandemic.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"735\">During such disorienting stretches, it\u2019s easy to postpone self-care under the illusion that not much time has passed. But time keeps moving, quietly, and so do the subtle changes in our health that depend on regular attention.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"735\">Teeth, for instance, carry their own clock\u2014they hold traces of our habits, our stress, even our neglect, slowly revealing what we\u2019ve overlooked in the rush or confusion of daily life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"1458\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Moments like these remind us that self-care isn\u2019t just about marking dates on a calendar but about listening to what our bodies\u2014and sometimes our teeth\u2014are trying to tell us. Taking that first step back into care, especially after time has slipped away, can restore a sense of rhythm and renewal.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"1458\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">In this way, <a href=\"http:\/\/desertskydentalsummerlin.com\">desert sky dental summerlin<\/a>\u00a0represents more than a place for check-ups; it\u2019s a return to mindful care, a space where the act of tending to your teeth becomes a small but powerful way to reclaim time and routine. Each visit resets the clock a bit, grounding you in the present and reminding you that even in times of uncertainty, consistency and attention to your well-being can help bring order to the blur.<\/p>\n<p>So why are we struggling with time?<\/p>\n<p>Time is measured and experienced not just by one\u2019s own individual will and heart, but by one\u2019s community. \u00a0This is why liturgical time is so valuable in the life of the Church.\u00a0 Our score of seasons and saints, holy days and memorials, helps orient us to something greater.\u00a0 Even more, time isn&#8217;t just for us, living here, keeping track of clocks and calendars.\u00a0 Regular ritualized memorials allow us to reattach, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/angelusnews.com\/system\/images\/W1siZiIsIjIwMTgvMDIvMDcvMTh4Z3FoaXlrYl9jb21tdW5pb25fb2Zfc2FpbnRzX3RhcGVzdHJ5X2RldGFpbF9qb2huX25hdmFfTEEuanBnIl0sWyJwIiwidGh1bWIiLCIxNDAweCJdXQ\/image.jpg\" alt=\"Weaving the divine: Artist John Nava tells stories of faith in L.A. cathedral tapestries | Angelus News\" width=\"365\" height=\"243\" \/>remember, re-enter into relationships of love\u2014whether we can hold those loved ones in our arms or not.\u00a0 This is why regular celebration with our communities\u2014be they families, friends, or our fellow members of the faithful\u2014are so valuable. \u00a0And why we feel so lost without them.<\/p>\n<p>What can we take away in this year when all eyes eagerly await an end to global suffering from Covid-19?\u00a0 We can dream about the past and we can hope for the future.\u00a0 But this bleak mid-winter sameness asks us to be more highly aware of the now.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m keeping my eye trained on my liturgical calendar (you know, the one you get in the mail for free and hang up on your refrigerator) so I can remember how to orient myself to something other than breakfast, lunch, and dinner.\u00a0 I\u2019m looking at the days of the saints and remembering Elizabeth <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saint-michael.com\/media\/1\/liturgical-calendar.jpg\" alt=\"St. Michael Parish: Liturgical Calendar\" width=\"229\" height=\"156\" \/>Ann Seton, John Neumann, and Andr\u00e9 Bessette (they all are celebrated this week, can you believe it???)\u00a0 My spiritual reading has an actual day attached to it (I\u2019m reading <em><a href=\"https:\/\/litpress.org\/Products\/644\/St-Benedicts-Rule-for-Monasteries\">St. Benedict\u2019s Rule for Monasteries<\/a><\/em>\u2014helpfully divided into small segments across the year).<\/p>\n<p>And, perhaps most importantly, I\u2019m trying to focus on my two tiny children.\u00a0 Every moment that I waste being distracted by the past or worried about the future causes me to miss the joyous amazement of the now\u2014which might involve eating blue play-doh, so continual vigilance is absolutely required!<\/p>\n<p>So, as we approach another tomorrow, which may be a bit like today, or yesterday, let us glory in the moment to which God calls us to be present\u2014with eyes and hands open, watching and working for a healthier and safer world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We can dream about the past and we can hope for the future.\u00a0 But this bleak mid-winter sameness asks us to be more highly aware of the now.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":55,"featured_media":54271,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2},"_wpas_customize_per_network":false},"categories":[3119,3405,17],"tags":[3393,2366,759],"class_list":["post-54270","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-plaza-new-ws","category-theology","category-liturgical-spirituality","tag-covid-19","tag-liturgical-year-2","tag-time"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
