August 30, 2020: Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Collegeville Composers reused the antiphon from the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (June 28 this year), as its wording is even closer to this Sunday\u2019s Gospel passage:<\/p>\n

Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,
\ntake up his cross, and follow me.
\nFor whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
\nbut whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 16:24-25)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

echoed in the Year A antiphon in the Graduale<\/em>:<\/p>\n

Whoever wishes to come after me,
\nlet him deny himself
\nand take up his cross and follow me,
\nsays the Lord.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The psalm, with verses extracted from Ps 116, makes the link with Eucharist explicit in verses 13 and 17:<\/p>\n

The cup of salvation I will raise;
\nI will call on the Lord\u2019s name.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

and<\/p>\n

A thanksgiving sacrifice I make;
\nI will call on the Lord\u2019s name.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As we process to Communion, we may also remember these words from the Second Reading:<\/p>\n

Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,
\nholy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship.
\nDo not conform yourselves to this age
\nbut be transformed by the renewal of your mind,
\nthat you may discern what is the will of God,
