{"id":49711,"date":"2019-10-31T01:00:36","date_gmt":"2019-10-31T06:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=49711"},"modified":"2019-11-03T06:48:29","modified_gmt":"2019-11-03T12:48:29","slug":"gospel-communion-all-souls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2019\/10\/31\/gospel-communion-all-souls\/","title":{"rendered":"GOSPEL COMMUNION: All Souls"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Saturday, November 2, 2019: All Souls<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"389\" src=\"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/2019-11-02-All-Souls-600x389.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49712\" srcset=\"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/2019-11-02-All-Souls-600x389.png 600w, https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/2019-11-02-All-Souls-300x195.png 300w, https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/2019-11-02-All-Souls.png 649w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Both antiphon and psalm are a mosaic,\nderived from reflection on scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The antiphon\u2019s first source was John\n6:40, the final lines of today\u2019s Gospel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8230;everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>From there, the Collegeville Composers Group went further on in the Bread of Life Discourse to John 6:56:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Now add to the mix one of the Communion\nantiphons in the 1998 Antiphonal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I am the resurrection and the life.<br>Believe in me and you shall live,<br>even though you die.<br>Live and believe in me,<br>and you will never die.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>(cf. John 11:25-26) and the mosaic is\ncomplete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The psalm verses are superimposed on the\nantiphon, but may also be sung separately. Verse 1 is lines 2-5 of the 1998\nAntiphonal text just quoted, Verse 2 is largely another Communion antiphon for\nthis day from the 1998 Antiphonal, using 2 Esdras 2 (or 4 Ezra 2, depending on\nwhich bible translation you use), verses 35 and 34.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The remaining psalm verses use large\nextracts from Psalm 27, so appropriate for today.
