In an email sent Thursday to faculty, staff, and students of the Liturgical Institute<\/a> in Mundelein, IL, Fr. Thomas Baima, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, announced the departure of Dr. Denis McNamara,<\/strong> academic director of the institute, effective August 13, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McNamara is departing to become founding Executive Director of the Center for Beauty and Culture<\/strong> at Benedictine College<\/a> in Atchison, Kansas. He will enter the college at the level of Associate Professor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McNamara will begin a program of outreach at Benedictine as part of the college\u2019s \u201cTransforming Culture in America\u201d program which  exists to promote the Catholic vision of art, beauty and the transmission of culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the email, McNamara will continue as a member of the Liturgical Institute\u2019s \u201cThe Liturgy Guys<\/em>\u201d podcast and be available as visiting faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McNamara’s study is entirely in the area of the history of art and architecture, with a B.A. in the History of Art from Yale and M.Arch.H. and Ph.D. in Architectural History from the University of Virginia. He was associate professor of sacramental aesthetics at Mundelein and listed his specialties as the theology of liturgical art and architecture, classicism, and sacramental aesthetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benedictine College has 1,921 students in fall of 2018. It is one of 15 residential colleges in the U.S. recommended by the conservative watch-dog Cardinal Newman Society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
