They never give us permission to\ndestroy anyone once we have the power to do so; and they always leave the\njudgement to God alone. They do not express bloodlust, but despair and\nneediness against bad power. When we pray like this in our liturgy, we should\nnot imagine humans whom we wish to destroy, but rather powers in ourselves and\nin the world that threaten lives, peace, nature, and future for all of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now a look at\nthis introit: I like the first half line very much. As typical for the fifth Gregorian\nmode, this introit starts with the notes of a major chord: c (do) \u2013 a (la) \u2013 f\n(fa). This sounds self-confident, and it seems that medieval ears and hearts\nfelt the same, when they heard that chord. \u201cBehold, the Lord..,\u201d expressed with\nconviction and courage. But then the half-tone gets into the melody: \u201cThe Lord\n\u2026 helped me.\u201d This single note gives the chant a completely different mood.\nPride and humility are so close to each other.
