The\nCollegeville Composers were faced with attempting to provide for both the Vigil\nand the Mass of the Day. In this case, they drew inspiration from the Vigil\nGospel, John 7:37-39:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the last and greatest day of the feast,
Jesus stood up and exclaimed,
\u201cLet anyone who thirsts come to me and drink.
As Scripture says:
Rivers of living water will flow from within him who believes in me.\u201d<\/em>

He said this in reference to the Spirit
that those who came to believe in him were to receive.
There was, of course, no Spirit yet,
because Jesus had not yet been glorified.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The\nMissal antiphon for the Vigil (John 7:37) takes part of this reading:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the last day of the festival, Jesus stood and cried out:
If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink, alleluia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

At\nCommunion, we are called to come and drink the Blood of the Risen Lord as well\nas to eat his Risen Body. Not only does this assuage our thirst, but with the\npower of the Spirit in us, streams of living water will flow from within us when\nwe show Christ to the world in the way that we live. In this way, what we have\ncelebrated and received becomes enfleshed as we are sent forth in mission to a hungry\nand thirsty world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
