Save your people, Lord, and bless your heritage, and govern\nthem until the (end of) age(s).\u201d (Ps 28(27):8\u20139)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Dominus-fortitudo.mp3\">Click here to listen to an audio of the chant.<\/a><br><em>Sung by Liborius Lumma, Innsbruck (Austria).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I only want to\ngive a short analysis of one melodic phenomenon in Gregorian Chant: The first\nsyllable of <em>plebis<\/em> in the first line\nis expressed by a slow repercussion: A single tone (a <em>virga<\/em> in this case, meaning \u201crod\u201d and looking like one) is\nelongated (to be seen as a thick bar at the upper end) and then doubled. The\nsame happens at the second syllable of<em>\nusque<\/em> in the fourth line. But the meaning is different: In the first case the\ndoubled elongated virga expresses the importance of the word itself (Whose\nstrength is the Lord? His people\u2019s!). In the second case the reduplication\nexpresses rising tension, the crucial message is about to come immediately\nafterwards (Until when?
