The \u201cjoy\u201d of\nthis chant lies in its 3rd<\/sup> mode, which is often used for exuberant\nmessages \u2013 not always easy to sing, to say the least in the name of cantors\nsuffering the 3rd<\/sup> mode. The highest pitches can be found in usque ad extremum terrae<\/em> (\u201cto the end of\nthe earth\u201d), and all those high notes make the joy spreading over the world\nheard. And the final alleluia<\/em> is\nremarkably long, as if the joy should never end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
