{"id":46941,"date":"2019-04-09T11:04:18","date_gmt":"2019-04-09T16:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/?p=46941"},"modified":"2019-04-15T16:11:26","modified_gmt":"2019-04-15T21:11:26","slug":"ordinariate-divine-worship-complementary-norms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/09\/ordinariate-divine-worship-complementary-norms\/","title":{"rendered":"Ordinariate Divine Worship Complementary Norms"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today the CDF released some&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/press.vatican.va\/content\/salastampa\/en\/bollettino\/pubblico\/2019\/04\/09\/190409a.html\">Complementary Norms<\/a>of the Apostolic Constitution \u201cAnglicanorum coetibus\u201d of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith along with an&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/press.vatican.va\/content\/salastampa\/en\/bollettino\/pubblico\/2019\/04\/09\/190407c.html\">Explanatory Note<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some cradle Catholics find the liturgical provisions made for the Ordinatriates to be too conservative in style (and particularly in language). However I, for one, appreciate any attempt to broaden Catholic unity, and I believe that we need a certain amount of diversity in the legitimate practice of the Catholic Faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the last section of the new norms (article 15) deals with the Celebration of Divine Worship. the section reads:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u00a71.&nbsp;<em>Divine Worship<\/em>, the liturgical form approved by the Holy See for use in the Ordinariate, gives expression to and preserves for Catholic worship the worthy Anglican liturgical patrimony, understood as that which has nourished the Catholic faith throughout the history of the Anglican tradition and prompted aspirations towards ecclesial unity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u00a72. Public liturgical celebration according to&nbsp;<em>Divine Worship<\/em>&nbsp;is restricted to the Personal Ordinariates established under the Apostolic Constitution&nbsp;<em>Anglicanorum coetibus<\/em>. Any priest incardinated in an Ordinariate may celebrate according to&nbsp;<em>Divine Worship<\/em>&nbsp;outside the parishes of the Ordinariate when celebrating Mass without a congregation, or publicly with the permission of the rector\/pastor of the corresponding church or parish.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u00a73. In cases of pastoral necessity or in the absence of a priest incardinated in an Ordinariate, any priest incardinated in a Diocese or in an Institute of Consecrated Life or Society of Apostolic Life may celebrate according to&nbsp;<em>Divine Worship<\/em>&nbsp;for members of the Ordinariate who request it. Any priest incardinated in a Diocese or in an Institute of Consecrated Life or Society of Apostolic Life may concelebrate Mass according to&nbsp;<em>Divine Worship<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>While the new&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctsbooks.org\/Search?searchTerm=Ordinariates%20Established%20by%20Anglicanorum%20Coetibus\">liturgical books<\/a>promulgated for the Ordinariates are not mandatory for use in Ordinariate liturgies (they are free to use the Ordinary or Extraordinary Forms of the Roman Rite), the new norms clarify that the new liturgical books are to be used only within the Ordinariate. However when pastoral needs require it any RC priest in good standing can preside a celebration in an ordinariate parish. Neil Xavier O'Donoghue"},"description":"Neil Xavier O\u2019Donoghue is originally from Cork, Ireland. He is a presbyter of the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ who has ministered in parishes on both sides of the Atlantic. He has spent many years as an academic mentor to seminarians. Neil currently serves as Programme Director for Liturgical Programmes at the Pontifical University and as Acting Director of the National Centre for Liturgy. Since 2020 he has also served as the Executive Secretary for Liturgy to the Irish Catholic Bishops Conference. He has studied at Seton Hall University (BA, MDiv), the University of Notre Dame (MA), and St Vladimir\u2019s Orthodox Theological Seminary (MTh). He holds a Doctorate in Theology (Ph.D.) from St Patrick\u2019s College, Maynooth and is in the process of completing a second doctorate (D.D) in the Pontifical Facultad de Teolog\u00eda Redemptoris Mater in Callao, Peru. Neil has published a translation of the Confessio of St. Patrick: St. Patrick: His Confession and Other Works (Totowa, NJ, 2009), as well editing the third edition of Fredrick Edward Warren\u2019s The Liturgy and Ritual of the Celtic Church (Piscataway, NJ, 2010). In 2011 the University of Notre Dame Press published The Eucharist in Pre-Norman Ireland an adaptation of his doctoral thesis and in 2017 the Alcuin Club published his Liturgical Orientation: The Position of the President at the Eucharist. His articles have appeared in The Irish Theological Quarterly, New Blackfriars, The Furrow and Antiphon.
