Today we know that there are many more half-tone intervals in\nthis introit than in older versions that used to dissolve these intervals to\nthe upper tone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the above\nmelody, this introit has nothing harsh, triumphant, or bossy whatsoever. It is\na cautious expression of astonishment, like taking the first unburdened deep breath\nafter dangerous distress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The text is\ndirectly addressed to God, and it is written in the first person singular: I am\nalive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is what\nJesus says today, and we can say it with him too.
