Hence there is no regular introit on this day,\nbut several antiphons and psalms in this first part of the liturgy. The chant\nabove is the very first of these antiphons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the people\nof Jerusalem \u2013 as narrated in the Gospel \u2013 we greet Jesus as the Son of David\nand praise his coming. We should not forget that Jesus did not fulfill the\npeople\u2019s expectations and ended on the cross, delivered by the same people. \u2013\nHow about our own expectations? And how do we react when God does not give us\nwhat we are asking for?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini<\/em> has become a part of the Sanctus which we Western\nChristians associate only with the Eucharistic celebration, but some Eastern\ntraditions (e.g. the Copts) use the Sanctus in other liturgies too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One little hint\nfor those who actually sing this antiphon: When you sing <em>David<\/em> you can stress the final syllable, as the melody clearly implies.\nWe can be quite sure that the Latin pronunciation of many Old Testament names\nstresses the final syllable, like in Hebrew.
