Laetare Jerusalem: et conventum facite omnes qui\ndiligitis eam: gaudete cum laetitia, qui in tristitia fuistis: ut exsultetis,\net satiemini ab uberibus consolationis vestrae.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCheer,\nJerusalem, and gather, all of you who love her. Rejoice in happiness, you who\nhave been in sadness. You shall exult and be satisfied by the breasts of her\nconsolation.\u201d (Is 66:10\u201311)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The point of\nthis introit is not only the jubilant message itself, but the first word. The\nmelody of laetare<\/em> copies the ending of\nthe Alleluja<\/em> in the Easter Vigil.\nThere are many other segments in Gregorian chants that have similar melodies,\nbut \u2013 as recent research has shown \u2013 they are not exactly the same. This melody\nis exclusively designated to mark these two moments in the liturgical year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This convergence\ncan make clear that Lent is not a time when we have to ignore the message of\nEaster. Christian Lent is always fulfilled with the conviction that life is\nstronger than death. That is where all power of conversion has its roots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
