Will it tell us anything new? It can&#8217;t help but do so: This will be the first time that anyone from the Papal Study Commission has spoken publicly about their work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ecp.yusercontent.com\/mail?url=https%3A%2F%2Ffiles.constantcontact.com%2Fe19571ef301%2Fbe69400e-51bc-4cce-b367-d71b3560d969.jpg&amp;t=1547123174&amp;ymreqid=9dd44a68-6949-b642-2f8b-ab0011010000&amp;sig=oQG_D_QUNfWyKpUVKHuc6A--~C\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The panel will include two members of the commission, which was formed by Pope Francis in 2016 to study the issue of women deacons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/news.hofstra.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/phyllis-zagano-rs2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"173\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Phyllis Zagano<\/strong>, who is the author of several books about women deacons and a research scholar at Hofstra University, will speak. She is a well known authority on the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"clear:both;height:10px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iet.be\/wordpress\/images\/profs\/Pottier.gif\" alt=\"Pottier\" width=\"187\" height=\"231\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Fr. Bernard Pottier, SJ<\/strong>, is the other speaker who served on the Vatican commission. Although less well-known to an American audience, he is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iet.be\/prof-bernard-pottier\/\">eminent scholar<\/a> and member of the International Theological Commission. He serves on the faculty of the Institut d&#8217;\u00c9tudes Th\u00e9ologiques in Brussels. As I reported at Pray Tell in an early <a href=\"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/index.php\/2016\/08\/02\/whos-on-the-vatican-commission-to-study-women-deacons\/\">post<\/a> about the commission, his background is in patristics (Gregory of Nyssa).<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:post-content --><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; height: 10px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p><!-- wp:image {\"align\":\"left\",\"width\":340,\"height\":173} --><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-HnOQNB4suOQ\/XDYocR4oZ4I\/AAAAAAAAME0\/GdAM8lYwLyMpJwAA7IzMyb53qnS4Bb3dQCLcBGAs\/s320\/Sr_%2BDonna%2BCiangio%252C%2BOP%2B%25281%2529.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"186\" height=\"262\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \/wp:image --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>They will be joined by <strong>Sr. Donna Ciangio, OP<\/strong>, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Newark, and Principal and Founder of Church Leadership Consultation, an organization devoted to mission development and pastoral planning. She is the chairperson of the North American Forum on Small Christian Communities, and is past director of RENEW International. She has done research on how Catholics might receive women deacons at the parish level.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; height: 10px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p><!-- wp:image {\"align\":\"left\",\"width\":340,\"height\":173} --><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/praytellblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"186\" height=\"262\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \/wp:image --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fr. Thomas Rosica, CSB<\/strong>, will moderate the panel. He is currently President of Salt &amp; Light Media, a Canadian foundation committed to advancing the New Evangelization. Fr. Rosica is well known in the Catholic media world, and serves as the English language media attach\u00e9 for the Holy See.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; height: 10px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>The mission of the Fordham Center on Religion and Culture is to assist people in engaging &#8220;the questions arising at the intersection of religious traditions and contemporary culture.
