The French translation of the Roman Missal, which has been delayed due to conflicts arising from the implementation of Liturgiam authenticam<\/em>, will be reviewed and revised in light of the Pope\u2019s recent motu proprio on translation.<\/p>\n

After the annual meeting of the bishops of France, held this year in Lourdes, the president of the Episcopal Committee for Liturgy, Bishop Guy de Kerimal, announced<\/a> that the bishops of France will go forward — but only with a new translation of the Lord\u2019s Prayer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The change in the Lord’s Prayer is being introduced for clarity of understanding. In place of \u201cne nous soumets pas \u00e0 la tentation\u201d which could be taken imply that God leads us into temptation, the new text reads \u201cne nous laisse pas entrer en tentation\u201d which clearly expresses the intended meaning of the prayer. (Public instruction<\/a> about this change dates from as far back as 2013.) The change will go into effect\u00a0on the first Sunday of Advent, December 3, 2017.<\/p>\n

The Missal translation as a whole, however, now has a target date of 2019. This extension of time will allow a committee of experts from the francophone churches to revise the text in light of Magnum principium<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
